MJB Technical FAQ'S
Frequently Asked Questions
How Do I Get Started?
Simply contact us by phone, email or through our enquiry form. We'll discuss your project, explain the next steps and provide guidance on the most suitable route forward.
Working With MJB Technical
Where do you offer your services?
We are based in Chesterfield but undertake projects throughout the UK.
Will you manage consultants such as structural engineers and ecologists?
Yes. We can coordinate specialist consultants where required to help streamline the process.
Why choose MJB Technical Services?
We provide a comprehensive service from initial survey through to planning approval and Building Regulations, giving clients a single point of contact throughout their project.
Planning
Do I need planning permission?
Not all projects require planning permission. Some works can be completed under Permitted Development Rights. We can assess your proposal and advise on the most appropriate route.
What is the difference between planning permission and building regulations?
Planning permission considers how a development affects its surroundings, whilst Building Regulations ensure the work is safe, energy efficient and structurally sound.
How long does planning permission take?
Most householder applications take around 8 weeks from validation, although more complex applications can take longer.
Can you deal with the planning application on my behalf?
Yes. We can prepare all drawings and supporting documents, submit the application and liaise with the local authority throughout the process.
What happens if my planning application is refused?
We will review the reasons for refusal and advise whether amendments, a resubmission or an appeal would be the most appropriate course of action.
Architectural Services
What services do you provide?
We provide architectural design, planning applications, building regulations packages, measured surveys, LiDAR scanning, structural engineering coordination, virtual tours and project management services.
Can you design house extensions and loft conversions?
Yes. We regularly work on extensions, loft conversions, garage conversions and alterations to existing homes.
Do you work on listed buildings and properties in conservation areas?
Yes. We have experience preparing applications for listed building consent and developments within conservation areas.
Can you help with barn conversions and change of use projects?
Absolutely. We regularly assist clients with barn conversions, commercial-to-residential schemes and other change of use applications.
Measured Surveys And LiDAR
What is a measured building survey?
A measured survey captures accurate dimensions of a building and can be used to produce floor plans, elevations, sections and 3D models.
What is LiDAR scanning?
LiDAR uses laser technology to create highly accurate digital representations of buildings and sites.
Why choose LiDAR over traditional surveying methods?
LiDAR can capture large amounts of information quickly, reducing site visits and providing a permanent digital record of the property.
Can you provide Revit and BIM models?
Yes. We can produce BIM-ready models and Revit files from survey data where required.
