37-39 Kirkgate, Newark

This grade II listed building was brought to us as a project by one of our major clients. The property dates back to the 16th century and has said to have been the residence of Lady Leake, with whom Queen Henrietta Maria stayed when residing during the Civil War. The property consisted of 1 retail unit on the ground floor and a 1 bed residential flat on the first.

The property was full of heritage features that we incorporated into our proposals, including one very special piece which was an old drawing on the wall that had been preserved over what looked like many years.

Our proposal saw 2 retail units to the ground floor with a 1 bed residential flat to the rear of the property. An expansion would take place on the first floor to convert the current 1 bed residential flat into a 2 bed.

We submitted our proposals to the relevant council, also liaising with the heritage departments to ensure the proposals were not going to affect the interior and exterior heritage features of the property.

The service we provided for this project included the following:

  • On-Site Dimension Survey
  • Production of Planning Drawings to include Existing and Proposed Plans, Section and Elevations, Design and Access Statement and heritage statement as the property was Grade II listed
  • Full Plans Building Regulations Package
